Hybrid Propulsion for the 2026 Jeep Cherokee
Ohio State EcoCAR competes on the Stellantis track of the EcoCAR Innovation Challenge, designing and integrating an enhanced hybrid propulsion system into a production SUV.
Ohio State has competed in the Advanced Vehicle Technology Competitions since 1990.
First place in eight of the last ten competition years, and top three in 18 of the past 21.

A Production SUV, Re‑Engineered by Students
From fall 2026 through spring 2030, the team works on a 2026 Jeep Cherokee hybrid supplied by Stellantis. The technical program is built around high-voltage energy storage, powertrain control, and off-road performance, with market research and business planning alongside the engineering.
The team works out of Ohio State's Center for Automotive Research on West Campus and is open to students of any major.
